Jonathan Hill

University of Reading

Jonathan Hill is Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Reading. Together with Helen Sharp and Andrew Pickles he leads the Wirral Child Health and Development Study into the prenatal and infancy origins of psychopathology. The children, first studied during pregnancy, are now being followed up at age 9 years. His ideas on causality in biology, psychology and psychopathology were described in ‘Mind, Meaning and Mental Disorder’ written with Derek Bolton, out of which he developed hypotheses regarding the role of social domains in family life and personality functioning that now underpin his research in these areas.
